When we found out that our third & final child was going to be a girl (that makes 3 little ladies if you’re new around here), I immediately had visions of a shared bedroom where they’d read books to each other before bed and have to quell their nighttime giggles. I wasn’t sure if it’d turn out as magical as I had imagined in my head because there’s a lot of whining and arguing in real life, but I’m happy to report that our girls love have done so well in their shared space.

Storage solutions that help three girls share one bedroom
This room is only 10′ x 13′ so if we can make it work in this small of a space, so can you. My mom and husband thought I was crazy at first, but with a little hard work & creativity, it worked out quite well.
If you’re wondering where all of their toys are stored, I’m a big believer in less is more so we try to purge a few times a year, but that being said, we do have a designated play room where lots of messes & memories are made. Their bedroom is literally just for sleeping and getting dressed, so it stays pretty tidy thanks to a few systems in place.
Each girl has their own 3 drawer dresser for their tops and bottoms. The dressers are from IKEA and they’re the smallest ones I could find. I placed them next to each other to give the illusion of one piece. Since they come as natural wood, we painted them white and spray painted the knobs black. Jackets and dresses are hung in the closet and then items like undies, pajamas & socks are stored in another dresser that’s inside the closet. And lastly, all of their shoes are stored in personalized bins by the front door.
Making the beds in the morning is a breeze thanks to the Beddy’s zipper bedding system (use code ELLISONMADE20 for 20% off if you snag one). The girls just zip up their covers, fluff their pillows and go on with the day. Check out this blog post for my review of our Beddy’s sets.
When we were house hunting, I made sure to get exact measurements for any house we were seriously considering to make sure there’d be enough space for three twin beds. Here is the listing photo of the room before.
Here is the shared room after the first reveal:
And now after our mini makeover where we replaced the ceiling fan for the crocheted pendant, added a styled wall shelf, completed the opposite wall decor and swapped out the white bedding for our vintage blush zipper bedding. Thanks for stopping by to check it out & as always, let me know if you have any questions!
Here are most of the resources for our girls’ shared garden bedroom
- Paint Color is Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter, but color matched & made by Glidden in their Duo Diamond Line at Home Depot.
- DIY Shiplap
- Memory Foam Twin Mattress
These are the 8″ mattresses that I got on Amazon, they are super comfy and come rolled up. There is an option for 10″ thickness as well (I think standard mattresses are 10″-14″), but for 3 of them it added up so we went with 8″ thickness. I did tuck some excess fabric from the bedding into the rails since the bedding is compatible for mattresses up to 15″. - Hand Crocheted Light Pendant
- White Metal Twin Frame Bed
LOVE these beds – no box spring required, slats only and you can adjust the height from 7″ – 11″. I got ours from Amazon, but they’re actually cheapest here! (And they sell for $100 more at Target! – Same manufacturer, style & everything) - Watercolor Floral Wallpaper Artwork We got the 24″ x 36″ size artwork and framed these ourselves, but you can take any frame & just remove the glass front for a similar look.
- Pink Faux Fur Blankets
- Sister’s Sign(Note that the one in this room is 36″ x 36″ but because this size is very costly to package and ship, I made a 24″ x 24″ version available instead and we also sell a 24″ x 36″ which can be made horizontally or vertically)
- Grey Velvet Lumbar Pillow
- Blush II All-in-One Zipper Bedding
We are proud to be a Beddy’s Partner – use code ELLISONMADE20 for 20% off your Beddy’s purchase! - Ballerina Plush Doll
- Pink Tassel Pillow OR Blush Faux Fur Pillow Covers(I bought mine from Kirkland’s at a very deep discount, they have since discontinued those pillows, but I’ve linked two darling options above.
- IKEA Rast Dresser
These were the smallest dressers I could find. They come in a natural, solid pine wood, so we just painted them white and spray painted the knobs black. They do not hold a ton, but they hold enough for each girls’ tops & bottoms. - Galvanized Metal Wall Planters
- Natural Shallow Basket with Handles(Used to hold books), mine is from Home Goods years ago, but I’ve linked a darling one at Target
- Natural Tall Basket
- Wood Shelves were a DIY using a wood round from Home Depot cut in half and attached to shelf corbels. My exact corbel brackets are not available online, I found them in store, $16 for a 2 pack. We attached two hooks onto the back of the wood round to attach to the wall, the corbel isn’t actually attached to the wall, it just helps balance and hold up the shelf.
Love it. Is this real shiplap,or is it wallpaper or painted to look like shiplap?
Thank you! It’s actually faux shiplap, we took a really thin plywood, painted it white, ripped it into 6″ strips then nailed it to the wall. I have a DIY tutorial here you’re welcome to check out. It makes an impact like real shiplap would for a fraction of the cost.
DIY Shiplap Tutorial
I think I’m going to use this technique at our new Florida condo. I see that you paint the plywood first then strip it down and install. Did you finish off b space between each slot so that the plywood doesn’t show? Thank you.
We didn’t for the girls’ room, but I did for a small play nook I just did. I just painted the sides so that no bare wood was showing. You could go over everything again with another coat of paint, but I’d rather do it all up front. Also, make sure your blade is sharp when ripping and cutting the boards otherwise you’ll end up touching up splintered areas. Good luck and congrats on a new FL condo!!
Gorgeous room! I’m starting the process of my three girls moving in together 😉 where did you get those little wall shelves, in between the beds? Thanks for all these tips and resources, I’m taking so many! Jayme
Thank you so much! I’m so sorry I’m just now responding, it’s been crazytown with all things coronvirus and homeschooling, haha. So that actually was a DIY to save space. I actually purchased a 12″ wood round from the hardware store and cut it in half to make two half circles. Then used a wood shelf bracket and attached the wood round to it and to hang it on the wall, I added two D ring hooks.
Loved this look .. going to replicate for my daughters bedroom! Putting up our shiplap today! What color white did you use for the shiplap?!
Oh, yay, I’m so glad to hear! I went with good old Behr Ultra White. It’s my go-to. Thanks so much!
I love what you’ve done, I wanted to create a room for my three granddaughters, so when they visit they could feel at home. You have absolutely inspired me.Thamk you ❤
Mary W.
Thank you so much, Mary. I appreciate your kind words and think it’s so sweet you have three granddaughters. I’m honored to inspire you and I know it’ll be such a special place!
Hi! Can you tell me where you got the floral decor above the sister sign?
Thank you!!
It actually was a DIY! It’s a lamb’s ear leaf garland from hobby lobby that I wrapped around a wooden dowel from Home Depot, then I glued faux flowers in the center (also from HL) with felt on the back to hold in place. It’s held on the wall with two small panel nails. Thank you!!
Beautiful room! What is the width of the beds? We’re planning on moving are two girls into the same room and need all the space saving ideas!
Thank you so much! I don’t know the measurements offhand, but here is the exact bed’s listing which should provide you with all the dimensions:
https://amzn.to/2AFebGS
The room is only 10′ x 13′ and three twin beds fit (albeit a bit snug) along the 13′ wall with about 1.5-2 feet in between each bed to move.
How did you make those end tables between the beds?
I need to do a tutorial on those, but it is just a wood round from home improvement store that I cut in half and then added a corbel bracket underneath. I added two D ring hooks to the back of the wood round and used those hooks to attach it to the wall.
Hi I was wondering where you found your corbels at? I have the same beds in a small room and have been searching for ideas for a table between beds. This is perfect and I love the distressed white!!
Hi Lauren! I’ve updated the blog post to include a little bit about the DIY shelves between the beds. I purchased the corbels from Home Depot in-store, but I can’t find them online. They were $16 for a 2 pack near the rest of the cheaper unfinished corbels, but that was almost 3 years ago now. They have similar ones though and you can do the same technique by staining the unfinished wood a darker color, let it dry and then apply chalk paint and use sand paper to distress 🙂
This is so gorgeous! I only wish I had more than one daughter now to create a shared space!
Aw, thank you so much! Girls are so fun, no matter 1 or 100 of them.
Where did you get the two big floral posters/frames that are above the two beds?
Hi Ann! All of the links to the sign and floral posters are linked toward the bottom of the blog post (I DIYed the frame for the wallpaper, but the link to the wallpaper shop is above). Thanks so much!
What color grey did you use for the wall? This bedrooms is so gorgeous!!!
Thank you SO much! The walls are Benjamin Moore “Revere Pewter” but I had it matched and made at Home Depot to save money. It’s the perfect neutral gray.
Do you remember the name of the brand of the faux fur throw. It matches so perfectly 🙂
Thank you! It was from Target but they don’t sell them anymore. If you are interested in one, I’ll be selling my three when we finish the girls shared bunk room here in Florida. Just reach out via DM on Instagram @ellisonmade and let me know 🙂
Hi Brittany!!
I love this room so much.
We have 3 little girls and are planning on putting them in a shared room.
Our room dimensions are 9-6’ x 14-2’, so very similar!!
My question is…. Does the door open all of the way or does it hit the bed closest to it?
I’m thinking we can just flip it so that the door opens out instead of in, but I was curious if you ran into this problem!
Hi Brittany! Thanks so much for your kind words. We are no longer in that home, but we are working on another shared room right now, so if you’re following on IG/FB, you’ll see that, too. BUT to answer your questions, the door did open all the way but JUST barely.
So cute and inspiring! We just added our third girl to our family and looking to do this soon. Could you possibly share a picture of the closet please?
Thank you so much! We no longer live in that home, but the closet was a very small coat closet, but the girls are getting another shared bedroom with a shared (larger) closet makeover very soon so if you’re following along on IG/FB, you’ll see that process soon.
